LABOUR YAY | Our Kid-Approved Back-to-School Shopping Edit

Sweet fall looks via Sears

I don't get it. No seriously - I honestly don't know where it went. One minute it was here with the sun and the patios and those extra long days stretching out before us. And now here we are - only 1 week to go before back-to-school and I don't know about you but I've barely thought about it. Last year's shoes are definitely too small by now. Their pants are for sure flood-ready. So really, there's no avoiding it: it's time to get serious about back-to-school.

This year, I asked my kids and their friends to help me out with this edit. We went through my back-to-school picks and they gave me their stamp of approval. Anything deemed uncool didn't make the cut. In the end, we ended up with everything from flip sequin backpacks (one of their top picks) and funny graphic tees to super cool light-up shoes and the latest tech. For picture day picks, I did that myself - after all you can really only appreciate how your parents made you dress up for school pics maaany years later. It's a thing.

Happy last week of holidays. Hope you're ending your summer off in the most epic way.

STYLE 101 | Our Top 50 BTS Picks for the Post-Secondary Set

via the ever-stunning Jessa Kae

Much like learning, personal style is a lifelong process. When you're really little, you wear what your mom tells you to wear. Because your mom is awesome. Um, awkward family photos: check. After years of obedient dressing you finally rebel, claiming that you will only (forever and ever) wear pink. Before too long, sweetness and sugary pink have morphed into 24/7 angst and head-to-toe-black. If you're a guy, you might trade your Star Wars tees for, um, bigger Star Wars tees to clearly express who you are as a person/Style Jedi. Fashion might just seem like colours and cloth. But as you begin to figure out who you are, your sense of style evolves with you. Instead of wearing the same uniform your friends are wearing (we've all been there), you learn to pick the clothes you love, in colours and silhouettes that make you feel confident, to tell the world what you're really all about. For now, anyway...

If you're going to a new school for the first time or heading back for another semester after a sweet summer off, it's fun to pick up some new clothes to start the year off right. On the road to discovering your own personal style, consider shopping an essential part of the learning process. Remember: this is how you justify buying new shoes :) Click on the thumbnails below to scroll through my Top 50 back to school picks for guys and girls. SO many great finds here, it makes me wish I was going back, too. Sigh...

Happy back to school!

Oh, while you're at New Sudbury Centre don't miss our Stay Frosh Sudbury Contest where you can take a pic with your school's mascot to prove which school is really #1: Laurentian, Cambrian or Boreal?

See all the contest dets at stayfrosh.com and remember: the coveted Stay Frosh trophy is on the line...

BEST IN CLASS | Fall's Most-Wanted Back to School Style Finds

  via Justice

Going back to school was always one of my favourite times of the year. I wasn't super stoked about the actual school part, but as someone who's always loved shopping, the end of summer meant only one thing to me: an epic shopping trip. Since I had an older sister most of my clothes were hand-me-downs, so I lived for this trip. This was the one chance all year to get clothes that were actually just for me. This was the one opportunity where I could go all out with fully accessorized outfits. This was one time where I could shop at my favourite stores, guilt-free. This was my moment. These clothes weren't worn-out or dated or stamped with my sister's style - they were mine. Aaallll mine.

Our back-to-school shopping trip was always a big deal. We'd make a day of it and get everything from school supplies to backpacks to shoes to clothes. I remember my patient dad sitting on lots of benches. And then I'd display my first day of school outfit proudly in my room until Labour Day. Sure, we needed new clothes but I'm pretty convinced this was really just my parents' way of lessening the end-of-summer sadness that inevitably happens right around now. It worked. And I got sweet new clothes. Win. Win.

Whether they're into emojis or Star Wars or sparkle, this fall's back to school finds are far from basic. Scroll down to see my top picks. Hope these last few weeks of summer are extra sweet xx
