FLOWER POWER | 10 Ways to Slay Fall's Floral Trend

via @howimetmystyle

While summer might be officially over, I'm not ready to say goodbye just yet. Luckily, the fashion world isn't great at letting go either. One only has to glance at any fashion influencer to see that when it comes to fall fashion, it's all about embracing the season with a healthy dose of denial. Yup, I'm talking fall florals. The runways were loaded with moody blooms that perfectly echo our feelings about fall. We love it, we're ready for it, but at the same time, the memories of gardens in bloom and a long, lazy summer can't help but bring us joy. The leaves might be falling but our wardrobes are just getting ready to bloom - think embroidered floral sweaters and jeans, pretty floral ankle boots, and fun floral printed pants that bring life to our solids and let us think warm thoughts. Alright fall we're ready for you...kind of..sort of...;)

STYLIST TIPS | Forget stiff and boxy; fall's pretty floral blazers are as comfy as a cardi but feel profesh enough for the office. We love wearing them with everything from jeans (casual Friday WIN) or black dress pants, a silky tank and killer heels for big work meetings where you want to leave a lasting impression.

WE LOVE | Long Floral Blazer, $49.95, Dynamite

STYLIST TIPS | If you've already got loads of solid jeans, this fall is the perfect time to add some embroidery to the mix. These super fun embroidered jeggings are guaranteed to make your other jeans jealous and your plain tees and sweaters look extra amazing.

WE LOVE | Floral Embroidered Jegging, $36.99, American Eagle

STYLIST TIPS | If you're on Instagram or follow any street style blogs, you've probably noticed that floral ankle boots are everywhere right now. So fun, so cute and so much more exciting than your basic black boots, these floral velvet stunners will add instant drama to any look, from a flowy maxi to your fave jeans.

WE LOVE | Floral Ankle Boots, $79.99, Call It Spring

STYLIST TIPS | Printed pants can seem intimidating and can definitely be unflattering if you pick the wrong pair. Our trick? Look for a floral with a black base and find a silhouette that's relaxed but still tailored, like these silky slim leg floral pants from Le Château. Your black sweaters and white button downs just found the perfect partner.

WE LOVE | Floral Print Slim Leg Pant, $29.99, Le Château

STYLIST TIPS | It's a fact: embroidered sweaters have reached 'essential' status. Wear it with the sleeves pushed up with a faux leather mini and ankle boots, rock it with jeans and an oversized white shirt on the weekends, dress it up with a black tulle skirt and stilettos. I mean, the options are endless. Oh, and did we mention it's cozy, too?

WE LOVE | Allover Embroidered Sweater, $39.90, Reitmans

STYLIST TIPS | There are days when you look in the mirror and just go 'ugh'. That outfit: so classic, so safe, so boooring. Enter the statement fringed earring; designed to wake up your look and make everyone around you say 'ooh la laaa.' Well, they might not say it out loud but you know they're thinking it. Now go put a rose in your teeth and tango your way into the sunset, you saucy thing.

WE LOVE | Floral Fringe Earrings, $18, Le Château

STYLIST TIPS | Floral dresses aren't strictly for summer. Find a dark floral print, then add a pair of suede (faux or real) over-the-knee boots for effortless chic.

WE LOVE | Printed Skater Dress with Kimono Sleeves, $29.99, Suzy Shier

STYLIST TIPS | From yoga to CrossFit, from the track to the treadmill, every workout will be so much better with the help of fun leggings. Bonus: these beauties look just as good for running errands as they do at the gym.

WE LOVE | Hyba Floral Printed Leggings, $26.90, Reitmans

STYLIST TIPS | Okay, so it might not really feel like fall yet. But before too long, we're going to be layering up with sweaters and coats and pretty scarves. This season, look for luxe details like loads of material to keep it cozy, a gorgeous hue (purple is a big trend this fall so we're particularly smitten with the one pictured above) and an interesting motif (yup, you guessed it: we vote for florals).

WE LOVE | FRAAS Floral Scarf, $44.99, Soft Moc

STYLIST TIPS | Floral blouses have come back as one of fall's most surprising trends. Floral blouses with jeans, floral blouses under suits, floral blouses with tailored trousers for work. As with all fall florals, stick with a deep base to keep it seasonally appropriate, then pick out a hue or two from the floral and run with it for your earrings, shoes and other extras to look expertly put-together.

WE LOVE | Dolman Printed Blouse, $44.90, Reitmans

LABOUR YAY | Our Kid-Approved Back-to-School Shopping Edit

Sweet fall looks via Sears

I don't get it. No seriously - I honestly don't know where it went. One minute it was here with the sun and the patios and those extra long days stretching out before us. And now here we are - only 1 week to go before back-to-school and I don't know about you but I've barely thought about it. Last year's shoes are definitely too small by now. Their pants are for sure flood-ready. So really, there's no avoiding it: it's time to get serious about back-to-school.

This year, I asked my kids and their friends to help me out with this edit. We went through my back-to-school picks and they gave me their stamp of approval. Anything deemed uncool didn't make the cut. In the end, we ended up with everything from flip sequin backpacks (one of their top picks) and funny graphic tees to super cool light-up shoes and the latest tech. For picture day picks, I did that myself - after all you can really only appreciate how your parents made you dress up for school pics maaany years later. It's a thing.

Happy last week of holidays. Hope you're ending your summer off in the most epic way.

BUY NOW, WEAR LATER | These 15 Fall Finds Will Prime Your Closet for the Season Ahead

via Dynamite

Shopping is a year-round sport. First there's the training - reading blogs, scrolling through Pinterest, browsing Instagram all count towards being a pro shopper. Then, there's the practicing; this is where window shopping comes in. You might not be ready to put down your credit card quite yet but you're almost there. And then, there's the main event, which of course is the shopping itself. We do this winter, spring, summer & fall, and like all truly great athletes, we never stop. There's always more to learn, there's always room to grow, and there's that ever-present goal to try to beat our own personal bests.

Part of being a hall-of-fame-level shopper involves trying to justify our purchases by getting as much wear out of our finds as possible. In the middle of summer, this is when we really put our skills to the test. It's a bit late to shop for summer things (unless they're on sale in which case, we put on our game faces and hit that sales rack hard), and it's still a bit too hot to wear full fall wardrobes without the risk of injury - or at the very least the need to rehydrate. It's a dangerous sport but with all great risks come great rewards. These 15 fall finds will prime your closet for the season ahead and help you slay the fashion game while you're at it. Don't you just love a winning streak? Happy August - hope you're soaking up every last minute of summer xx

WEAR NOW/WEAR LATER | Cool nights out and cold days in air-conditioned offices make the long blazer an ideal layer for right now for pairing up with a tee and skirt. Once fall arrives, we'll be wearing it on repeat with our jeans and joggers.

WE LOVE | Knit Maxi Blazer, $69.95, Dynamite

WEAR NOW/WEAR LATER | We've been living in our white kicks for the past few years but right now, we think it's time for an update. We're loving light (but not white) sneakers in pale shades of grey, pink and tan as a super subtle update to our ever-growing sneaker collection. We're loving the just-released Nike Air VaporMax Flyknits with their comfy knit uppers and super chunky soles.

WE LOVE | Nike Air Vapormax Flyknit Sneakers, $189.99, Champs Sports

WEAR NOW/WEAR LATER | August and leather leggings are never a good combo. I mean, if you've ever watched that episode of Friends wear Ross gets stuck in his pleather pants, you'll totally get me. For now, we're going to pick up some mesh-insert leggings to wear to yoga and keep our faux leather leggings to bust out for fall with our ankle boots and oversized knits.

WE LOVE | Stripe Mesh Legging, $32.95, Garage; Faux Leather Legging w Zippers, $39.95, Dynamite

WEAR NOW/WEAR LATER | Florals are a huge trend this fall which is great news for those of us who live in summer dresses. Pick up this black beauty now to wear on its own with cute sandals and slides, then rock it this fall with an oversized cardi and over-the-knee boots.

WE LOVE | Printed Slip Dress, $49.90, Reitmans

WEAR NOW/WEAR LATER | From Drake to Meghan Markle, some of our fave peeps are proudly wearing Jays fan gear right now. We're loving the go-with-everything black version of the Jays cap to wear now and into fall anytime we don't feel like fussing with our hair.  Um, which is pretty much every day. Just us?

WE LOVE | Toronto Blue Jays MLB Black Baseball Cap, $27.99, LIDS

WEAR NOW/WEAR LATER | Basic sweats look so well, basic, once you put them up against some of this season's sweet detailed sweats. From oversized balloon sleeves to lace-up sides, the new sweats let you stay comfy but still feel pretty. Wear it now with your jean shorts for cool summer evenings and into fall with jeans and leather leggings.

WE LOVE | Side Lace Sweatshirt, $51, American Eagle

WEAR NOW/WEAR LATER | Whether you're heading back to school or not, August always feels like the perfect time to pick up a new pair of jeans. Stay away from old-school super skinny styles in favour of stovepipe crops or high-rise girlfriend jeans to look right on point. Wear them now with a simple tank and later with a classic button-down shirt or cold shoulder sweater.

WE LOVE | Claudia High Rise Floral Jeans, $59.95, Dynamite

WEAR NOW/WEAR LATER | Floral boots have made a comeback for fall but we can't wait to wear them so we just won't. Try them with a little white dress or denim skirt now, then wear them with everything from jeans to jumpsuits this fall.

WE LOVE | Lace-Up Velvet Floral Boots, $89.99, Call It Spring; Floral Platform Boots, $79.99, Call It Spring

WEAR NOW/WEAR LATER | One of fall's biggest comeback prints is the polka-dot but we're not going to take the trend quite so literally. Whether you do the classic dot or try dalmatian-inspired spots, the key is to keep it black & white to bring new life to your solids.

WE LOVE | Printed Ruffle Blouse, $44.90, Reitmans; Polka-Dot Piping Flip Skirt, $19.99, Ricki's

WEAR NOW/WEAR LATER | We love that pretty brooches and decorative pins are finally back for fall. Add a silver pin (silver's another big trend but we'll talk about that next time...) instead of a necklace to your tees and menswear shirts to look super on trend right now, then pin it to your sweaters and outerwear for fall.

WE LOVE | Silver Chain Pins, $11.99, Call It Spring

WEAR NOW/WEAR LATER | While some lace can look sweet, black lace looks edgy in all the right ways. A black lace tee is perfect for wearing with white jeans and culottes in the summer months, then under your blazers and leather jackets in the fall.

WE LOVE | Lace V-Neck Top with Buttons, $39.95, Dynamite

WEAR NOW/WEAR LATER | A good leather jacket can be a big investment but if you've ever owned a great one, you'll know it's worth the spend. We're obsessed with the leather jackets from Roots because they're classic enough to look cool for years plus the leather gets better the more you wear it. Like leather leggings, you really only want to wear this when it's cool (obviously) but just think how sweet it will look hanging in your closet in the meantime ;)

WE LOVE | Women's Soho Leather Lake Jacket, $588, Roots
