KICK START: 39 Pairs of Summer's Prettiest Shoes

Backstage at the Preen Spring '13 Show. Photo shot by The Coveteur for ALDO RISE.

There's nothing better than the easy-breeziness of summer, especially when it comes to shoes. No socks to contend with, no big heavy boots to lug around - summer shoes are light and lovely and just so much prettier than their winter counterparts with embellishments, prints and colours galore.

Ready to store your closed-toes and step into something a little more fabulous? Read on for some of summer's top shoe trends, then check out the gallery below for 39 pretty pairs I found at New Sudbury Centre.  Simply hit the pedicure chair and you're totally good to go. Don't you just love new shoes? x

Ankle-Wrap Sandals - Seen on almost every celebrity right now, the ankle-wrap sandal is a super sexy way to dial up your summer dresses.

Sky-High Wedges - We love a good wedge since it gives us the height we crave without having to worry about tottering around on a pin-thin heel. Look for earthy cognac wedges or graphic colour-blocked wedges this season. Also be sure to consider the new modified wedge with its cool cut-out sole.

Single-Sole Pumps - Step away from the platforms - the single sole is currently where it's at. Look for pointy-toe pumps for work or sexy single-soled sandals for date night.

Gladiator Sandals - The classic Greek gladiator is back in a big way for Summer '13 and is just as comfortable as (and way sexier than) your average fllip-flop.

Easy Espadrilles and Colourful Boat Shoes - When you're ready to hit the lake, an easy flat is the perfect choice. This summer, look for an easy espadrille flat or an embellished boat shoe.

Floral Sneakers - Converse and Keds have been kicking around for decades for a reason. If you're active but want something more cute than your regular runners, the stores are loaded with cute kicks in fun florals and prints.

The Best Gifts for Dad

A funny ad from Dad's classic standby, Old Spice. Photo courtesy Old Spice

When you grow up in a house full of girls, you never really get the male species. My childhood was filled with ballet recitals, hours spent bronzing and blow-drying in the bathroom and epic shopping trips with my mom and sister, while my dad waited patiently on a mall bench with the other outwitted, outnumbered males. I never understood why guys didn't like that stuff. And then I had a son. And slowly, over the past 3 years, I've started to figure it out. A doll in a girl's hand is a baby she can rock and cradle and love and a baby stroller carries the doll on walks. Makes sense, right? To a boy, a Barbie is a weapon - something to swing around and hit things with, while a stroller is a 'car carrier'. Anything with wheels or wings is good. Things with wheels and wings that shoot stuff? Better. But then, there's the sensitive side. Girls are notoriously independent but little boys just adore their moms, they love to cuddle and when they're sick? Well, let's just say the man cold starts very, very young.

And whether they're 5 or 35, boys, as we all know, just love to play. I've put together a gift guide with toys for every kind of Dad, whether he's a music buff, amateur athlete or total gadget geek.

Happy Father's Day, Dads! We might not always get you, but we love you all the same x

Cheers to the Freakin' Weekend: Your May 24 Wardrobe

Yes to this. Photo courtesy thedecoratedcookie.com

The only thing worse than a hungry mosquito stuck in your tent on a camping trip is a bad wardrobe. Forgive me for the following fashion rant but hear me out;  When it comes to our long weekend packing list, I just think we can do a little better. I mean, those ripped-up Coors Light-stained joggers you see oot and aboot every weekend on campgrounds across Canada just don't cut it, even around the campfire. Same goes for other weekend fashion offenders - grimy old flip-flops, matchy-matchy Adidas tracksuits (Ole, ole ole oleeee), cheek-exposing Daisy Dukes and white tube socks, awesome as they are.  Call in the trailer park police, arrest those bad boys, and throw away the key. Even though I wear heels 96% of the time, I am a surprisingly apt camper. You see, I spent every summer at a hardcore tripping camp, became a counsellor, navigated our glorious Ontario lakes, even learned how to portage (solo..BOOYAH!). So while I can totally appreciate gettin' dirty and roughing it with the best of 'em, there comes a time when you need to say goodbye to your jogging suits and refine your look, if only for the Facebook tags that you'll be getting next Tuesday. I'm not suggesting you bust out your falsies and stilettos just yet - this is May 24 after all - you can still wear your comfy shorts, your bear-ready runners and of course, your cozy hoodie, but it's all about how you wear your off-duty pieces that will help you look terrific, not tragic. I've put together 4 cute outfits to get you from Friday to Monday in style, whether you're heading to the campground, cottage or backyard BBQ this May 24.

Happy Long Weekend, y'all! Hope the weather's great, the beers icy cold and the marshmallows juuuust right x
