FLOWER POWER | 10 Ways to Slay Fall's Floral Trend

via @howimetmystyle

While summer might be officially over, I'm not ready to say goodbye just yet. Luckily, the fashion world isn't great at letting go either. One only has to glance at any fashion influencer to see that when it comes to fall fashion, it's all about embracing the season with a healthy dose of denial. Yup, I'm talking fall florals. The runways were loaded with moody blooms that perfectly echo our feelings about fall. We love it, we're ready for it, but at the same time, the memories of gardens in bloom and a long, lazy summer can't help but bring us joy. The leaves might be falling but our wardrobes are just getting ready to bloom - think embroidered floral sweaters and jeans, pretty floral ankle boots, and fun floral printed pants that bring life to our solids and let us think warm thoughts. Alright fall we're ready for you...kind of..sort of...;)

STYLIST TIPS | Forget stiff and boxy; fall's pretty floral blazers are as comfy as a cardi but feel profesh enough for the office. We love wearing them with everything from jeans (casual Friday WIN) or black dress pants, a silky tank and killer heels for big work meetings where you want to leave a lasting impression.

WE LOVE | Long Floral Blazer, $49.95, Dynamite

STYLIST TIPS | If you've already got loads of solid jeans, this fall is the perfect time to add some embroidery to the mix. These super fun embroidered jeggings are guaranteed to make your other jeans jealous and your plain tees and sweaters look extra amazing.

WE LOVE | Floral Embroidered Jegging, $36.99, American Eagle

STYLIST TIPS | If you're on Instagram or follow any street style blogs, you've probably noticed that floral ankle boots are everywhere right now. So fun, so cute and so much more exciting than your basic black boots, these floral velvet stunners will add instant drama to any look, from a flowy maxi to your fave jeans.

WE LOVE | Floral Ankle Boots, $79.99, Call It Spring

STYLIST TIPS | Printed pants can seem intimidating and can definitely be unflattering if you pick the wrong pair. Our trick? Look for a floral with a black base and find a silhouette that's relaxed but still tailored, like these silky slim leg floral pants from Le Château. Your black sweaters and white button downs just found the perfect partner.

WE LOVE | Floral Print Slim Leg Pant, $29.99, Le Château

STYLIST TIPS | It's a fact: embroidered sweaters have reached 'essential' status. Wear it with the sleeves pushed up with a faux leather mini and ankle boots, rock it with jeans and an oversized white shirt on the weekends, dress it up with a black tulle skirt and stilettos. I mean, the options are endless. Oh, and did we mention it's cozy, too?

WE LOVE | Allover Embroidered Sweater, $39.90, Reitmans

STYLIST TIPS | There are days when you look in the mirror and just go 'ugh'. That outfit: so classic, so safe, so boooring. Enter the statement fringed earring; designed to wake up your look and make everyone around you say 'ooh la laaa.' Well, they might not say it out loud but you know they're thinking it. Now go put a rose in your teeth and tango your way into the sunset, you saucy thing.

WE LOVE | Floral Fringe Earrings, $18, Le Château

STYLIST TIPS | Floral dresses aren't strictly for summer. Find a dark floral print, then add a pair of suede (faux or real) over-the-knee boots for effortless chic.

WE LOVE | Printed Skater Dress with Kimono Sleeves, $29.99, Suzy Shier

STYLIST TIPS | From yoga to CrossFit, from the track to the treadmill, every workout will be so much better with the help of fun leggings. Bonus: these beauties look just as good for running errands as they do at the gym.

WE LOVE | Hyba Floral Printed Leggings, $26.90, Reitmans

STYLIST TIPS | Okay, so it might not really feel like fall yet. But before too long, we're going to be layering up with sweaters and coats and pretty scarves. This season, look for luxe details like loads of material to keep it cozy, a gorgeous hue (purple is a big trend this fall so we're particularly smitten with the one pictured above) and an interesting motif (yup, you guessed it: we vote for florals).

WE LOVE | FRAAS Floral Scarf, $44.99, Soft Moc

STYLIST TIPS | Floral blouses have come back as one of fall's most surprising trends. Floral blouses with jeans, floral blouses under suits, floral blouses with tailored trousers for work. As with all fall florals, stick with a deep base to keep it seasonally appropriate, then pick out a hue or two from the floral and run with it for your earrings, shoes and other extras to look expertly put-together.

WE LOVE | Dolman Printed Blouse, $44.90, Reitmans

CANADA D'EH | Wear Your Maple Leaf on Your Sleeve This Canada Day Weekend

via Roots

It's almost Canada Day, eh? While it might not feel like summer quite yet, we're ready to turn up the heat this weekend. From our epic backyard barbecues with our besties to singing around the campfire, Canada Day is all about spending time with our favourites and celebrating our brief but oh-so-beautiful summer season. This weekend, perhaps more than most, it's time to wear your maple leaf on your sleeve. Read on for 15 ways to shop Canada from some of our fave Canadian retailers, whose history just might surprise you. Happy Canada Day lovelies! xx

DID YOU KNOW | Reitmans was founded in 1926 by Herman and Sarah Reitman. Since its modest beginnings, this publicly owned, family-controlled business has evolved from one women’s clothing store on Boulevard St. Laurent in Montreal to Canada’s largest women’s specialty retailer.

WE LOVE | Halter Ruffle Dress, $64.90, Reitmans

DID YOU KNOW | Bootlegger was founded in Vancouver in the late 60s when jeans were taking over the fashion world. It began as the General Pant Company, offering the best assortment of jeans in town - but was often confused with General Paint Company. So, its founders met at a pub (how Canadian, right?), changed the name, and over 40 years later, it continues to be one of our country's fave places to shop for clothes.

WE LOVE | Canada Day Beach Blanket, $40, Bootlegger

DID YOU KNOW | Groupe Dynamite, with its two brands, Garage and Dynamite, operates over 400 stores in 10 differents countries and now employs over 6000 people. The Dynamite team creates, designs, and markets in Canada, then distributes the collection to its large network of Dynamite and Garage retail stores worldwide.

WE LOVE | Long Overpiece Blazer, $44.90, Dynamite

DID YOU KNOW | The first Suzy Shier opened its doors in 1966, making it one of Canada's longest-operating women's retailers. Since 2010, Suzy Shier has donated over $100,000 to the Weekend to End Women's Cancers and is proud to donate women's clothing in support of women's shelters and causes throughout Canada every year.

WE LOVE | Curve Appeal Floral Ruffle Peasant Top. $32, Suzy Shier

DID YOU KNOW | Boathouse began in 1973 as a small clothing store in St. Catharines, Ontario. Known locally as Arlies, the shop specialized in active lifestyle apparel and equipment, catering to outdoor thrill-seekers and sports enthusiasts. The stores eventually expanded across Canada to more than 80 stores nationwide, and is now known to most as Boathouse.

WE LOVE | Tentree Apparel Hooded Sweatshirt, $76, Boathouse

DID YOU KNOW | Established in 1976, Jean Machine was born out of a passion for denim. Jean Machine employees aren't just salespeople, they're 'Masters of Denim', educated and trained on every brand and style to help its customers find that perfect pair every time.

WE LOVE | Yoga Jeans Highrise Bootcut Jeans, $119.99, Jean Machine

DID YOU KNOW | Mountain Warehouse has been an outdoor gear go-to for the family since 1997. If you've shopped there, you may have noticed that the store doesn't carry lots of different brands - almost all the products sold through its stores are exclusive to Mountain Warehouse. By designing its own products, Mountain Warehouse cuts out the middleman so its customers score the same quality, but at significantly lower prices than you’ll typically find at other shops.

WE LOVE | Canada Luggage Strap, $6.99, Mountain Warehouse

DID YOU KNOW | DAVIDsTEA opened its first tea shop on Queen St. in Toronto in 2008. In only 9 years, the company has grown to over 200 stores in Canada and the United States, with over 150 types of tea. If that wasn't impressive enough, DAVIDsTEA offers the largest collection of organic teas and infusions in North America.

WE LOVE | Oh Canada Tea, $7.98 for 50g, DAVIDsTEA

DID YOU KNOW | Le Château was started in 1959 as a family-run clothing store in downtown Montreal. Today, it employs over 2500 employees and produces 30% of its garments annually in its very own production facilities here in Canada.

WE LOVE | Lace Illustion Cocktail Dress, $139.95, Le Château

DID YOU KNOW | Soft Moc began as a single 300 sq. ft. store called 'The Canadian Moccasin Company.' Today the store operates 112 stores in every province nationwide, and remains one of the only Canadian owned and operated national footwear retailers. Its Made in Canada moccasin line is still available at each of its Soft Moc stores.

WE LOVE | Women's Made in Canada Mocs, $109.99, Soft Moc

Ricki's offers its clothing in sizes 0-18 and pants in multiple lengths to fit a wide range of women's bodies. Aside from its commitment to fashion, Ricki's has raised over $1,000,000 to help the Canadian Women's Foundation's End Poverty for Women campaign, which helps prevent violence against women, helps build the self-esteem of girls and helps low income women get out of poverty.

WE LOVE | Here Comes the Sun Floppy Hat, $24.90, Ricki's

DID YOU KNOW | 45 years ago, Aldo Bensadoun - son of a shoe merchant and grandson of a cobbler - pledged to build a company with compassion. Today, ALDO Group has over 20,000 associates worldwide with over 200 million customers visiting its 3 retail banners every year.

WE LOVE | Clear Sunglasses, $11.99, Call It Spring

DID YOU KNOW | Co-Founders Don Green & Michael Budman might have been born in the US, but they each developed a lifelong love for Canada during their summers spent at Camp Tamakwa in Algonquin Park. They moved to Toronto and founded Roots as a natural footwear company in 1973. As for the name? Don happened to be flipping through a friend's biology textbook when the word 'roots' caught his eye and he loved the idea of how a person's feet are connected to the ground like the roots of a tree. Roots remains a leader in the retail industry with its continued support of environmental initiatives.

WE LOVE | Women's Nice Short Sleeve Tee, $34, Roots

LIKE A BOSS | 12 Spring Upgrades Your Work Wardrobe Will Love

via whatweworeblog on Instagram

Girl bosses used to dress like men to get the respect they deserved, often with mixed results. Pants. Obviously yes. Shoulder pads? Mmmmnot so much.  As a proud girl boss, let me say that I have managed to build my own business, work on my own terms and continue to set goals that my 7 year-old self would have been proud of, and I've done it all in pink. This spring, a killer work wardrobe is all about harnessing your fashion power to make your 9-to-5 grind more fun. It's about taking charge of the season's top trends and making them work for you. And of course, it's about shoe shopping because let's face it: when is it not about shoe shopping?

Read on for 12 spring upgrades your work wardrobe is going to love. Now all you've gotta do is werk it...

STYLIST TIPS | Bored with your basic button-down? Give your blouse edit an instant update by adding bell sleeves to the mix. The oversized sleeves will make every board meeting more dramatic, each Powerpoint point more pointed, every after-work sip of wine so much more chic. Wear them with tailored trousers (any colour you like, from neutrals to pastels to brights to florals) and a long pendant necklace, then try it with frayed hem cropped jeans and white kicks on the weekend.

OUR PICK | Bell-Sleeve Blouse, $44.90, Reitmans

STYLIST TIPS | If thinking in practical terms (which you should never do in fashion, btw), printed pants might seem tough to justify. After all, how many times can you wear floral pants to work? Okay, picture these stylish scenarios: 1. With a white button-down, black pointy-toe pumps and black fringe pendant earrings. 2. With a plain white tee, a black leather bomber and clean white sneakers for dress-down days or casual offices. 3) With a black blazer, black silky tank and heels in place of a boring suit. I've only named three. I could go on but I won't, because I need to get this post done so I can go buy these pants. #sorrynotsorry (Oh, would also be super cute with a pink trench or an army green utility jacket or the black bell-sleeved blouse I featured above - see? I can't stop...)

OUR PICK | Floral Print Crêpe Slim Leg Pant, $49.95, Le Château

STYLIST TIPS | This lovely pink trench, with it's subtle moto-zip detail, has girl power written all over it and is ideal for running the world, no matter what the spring weather throws your way.

OUR PICK | Soft Pink A-Line Trench, $139.90, Cleo

STYLIST TIPS | If you tend to stress, let your shoes guide your vibe. These laid-back slides will help you slide into work without having to worry about the pain of uncomfortable heels or the annoyances of no-sandal dress codes, plus they'll help you look extra on top of it. If you wish you could wear slippers to work, these are really the next best thing. I love wearing these with wide leg cropped pants (see below) or printed pants (see above).

OUR PICK | Backless Loafer, $90, ALDO

STYLIST TIPS | I'm not suggesting you wear sunglasses in your office (tempting as that might be), but on your way to work, out for lunch or on your commute home, you need a pair of expensive-looking glasses in your workwear arsenal. I'm loving the collection of premium glasses at ALDO right now that feels decidedly luxe without the commitment of designer eyewear prices. If pink just isn't your thing, you're probably going to hate this post so far but luckily, most of my suggested pink finds come in black, too.

OUR PICK | Premium Sunglasses, $55, ALDO

STYLIST TIPS | When it comes to looking profesh, never, ever let your work bag be an afterthought. If I had a dime for every time I've seen a perfectly well-dressed woman ruin an entire outfit with a plastic lunch bag, I'd have so many amazing pairs of shoes. Remember that a truly killer work wardrobe is all about attention to detail - think polished digits and shoes, on-point hair and heels, and of course, a sleek-looking laptop bag to carry all of your Very Important Stuff.

OUR PICK | Uptown Box Tote, $328, Roots

STYLIST TIPS | Wide legs have all but replaced skinnies for fashion influencers and chic working girls are following suit. This spring, it's all about the wide leg crop and the high-waisted wide leg, both of which will make you look totally current on the job. Wear them with a white shirt and block heels or push it with suspenders à la Monica from Friends Season 1, Episode 1. Don't you just love Netflix fashion inspo?

OUR PICK | Stripe Woven Wide Leg Pant, $99.95, Le ChâteauWide Leg Cropped Pants, $34.90, Reitmans

STYLIST TIPS | Dressing for work can feel like a daily battle. Time to take control - think of your office as your town and you as the slick sheriff. Except, instead of a bandana 'round your neck, you've got this floral scarf instead. Now reel in those boring outfits and rope 'em in with this scarf. Basic black suit? Whachow. Simple crew neck sweater? Kazow. Those neutrals'll never know what hit 'em.

OUR PICK | Floral Scarf, $12, ALDO

STYLIST TIPS | A pair of shoulder-skimming earrings are the answer to every woman's early morning probz. Hit the snooze button one too many times? Add these earrings to a white long-sleeve tee and black cropped pants. Missed the kids' schoolbus? Throw these earrings on and nobody will notice those mismatched socks. I'd also highly recommend these stunners to take any outfit from serious to seriously fun for impromptu dinner dates with your work besties.

OUR PICK | Fringe Earrings, $12.90, Reitmans

STYLIST TIPS | Adding a third piece is key to taking any work outfit from meh to major. While a blazer can sometimes feel too constricting and a long cardigan can feel sloppy, a sleeveless blazer is the perfect, stylish compromise. Wear it with everything from fitted long-sleeve bodysuits and tailored trousers to a tee and dark denim on casual Fridays.

OUR PICK | Sleeveless Open Blazer, $74.90, Reitmans

STYLIST TIPS | If you love your striped tees as much as I do, then it's likely you love wearing them to work, too. Problem is, a striped tee doesn't exactly scream 'adult', does it? Luckily, this striped chiffon top has all the classic vibes of your go-to striped tees but with a lovely pleated chiffon detail that instantly upgrades it to corporate level. Love!

OUR PICK | Pleated Chiffon Striped Top, $49.90, Cleo

STYLIST TIPS | Spring means it's time to start wearing your dresses again and this eyelet beauty is ripe for the picking. Navy is a nice subtle update if you're guilty of wearing all black all the time but luckily, it still pairs beautifully with black for the office. Wear it now with black tights and ankle boots and later with bare legs (if your office allows) and block heels or pointy-toe flats. Bright accessories (think yellow or pink) are ideal for creative offices while silver, gold or black extras will keep the look toned down.

OUR PICK | 3/4 Sleeve Eyelet Dress, $79.90, Reitmans

STYLIST TIPS | You've updated your work wardrobe and those 'nothing to wear' mornings are no more. But here's the thing - success at work, like success in fashion, is all about setting goals and taking risks. Make it your mission this year to step outside your comfort zone and do something different. My recommendation? Try silver shoes. From perforated brogues to fun Mary Janes, shiny silver shoes will help you step up your 9 to 5 game. Avoid Studio 54 vibes by pairing your loud shoes with a quiet, classic outfit - think black or khaki ankle pants and a fine-knit crewneck to start. Bust out those bomb dance moves at your own discretion.

OUR PICK | Silver Perforated Brogues, $90, ALDO; Block Heel Mary Janes, $80, ALDO
